Трудно понять физическую основу влияния звезд по причине их крайней удаленности, однако его необходимо учитывать, поскольку бывают ситуации, которые невозможно обьяснить лишь воздействием планет. Даже мелкая звезда может в корне изменить течение событий, если она достаточно сильно проявлена в гороскопе. Если же проекция звезды не совпадает с важными точками гороскопа и положением планет, то ее влияние можно не учитывать. Каждая звезда имеет свойственную ей характеристику воздействия, которая может быть не только благоприятной или неблагоприянтой, но и двойственной. Как правило, чем звезда ярче, тем сильнее ее влияние и больше допустимый орбис в соединении с ней. Однако, это правило имеет исключения, то есть чисто формально каждой звезде можно сопоставить две звездные величины магнитуды - реально наблюдаемую астрономическую и астрологическую, определяющую силу ее воздействия. В большинстве случаев эти две величины совпадают. С точки зрения астрологии существует 22 звезды 1 величины. Некоторые из них, например Альфард и Кастор, реально имеют 2 звездную величину. Далее в тексте при описании характеристик звезд будут называться астрологические магнитуды, а реальные звездные величины можно найти в эфемеридах в конце книги. История разработки эфемерид — это история вечной подгонки моделей к реальному миру, когда на смену не очень точным эфемеридам, приходят новые — «очень точные», которые спустя какое-то время объявляются не очень точными и сменяются еще более точными.
