Revit 2024.2 marks a significant step towards seamless interoperability by including native support for STEP file import, removing the need for previous workarounds. Well, Autodesk Revit 2024 is already here. And while 2023 certainly is not "old & busted," 2024 is already making waves in the community for some of the cool, new features is has to show. Revit 2024 – Best New Features
After using it, I prefer it. The Canvas Theme button on the View ribbon tab enables easy switching of the graphics window between light and dark without affecting the rest of the interface. Interface adjustments are available in the options on the Colors panel. This more interactive feature, highlighting entries as you order, is handy for large projects with numerous views, sheets, schedules, and families in the project browser. These color books resemble the AutoCAD versions, incorporating RAL and Pantone color books, and offer the flexibility to craft personalized color books. This customization feature empowers users to establish a palette of custom colors tailored for specific applications like room color fills and filled region colors. This style falls between Consistent Colors and Realism. This makes it a lighter option than Realistic, allowing you to showcase materials with their respective images. This feature makes it much easier to keep track of revisions made throughout the project and which sheet they have been applied to. The revision cloud schedule can include fields not only from the clouds but also from the revisions, sheets, and views, thereby streamlining the management of sheets and revisions throughout the project.

Изменяемые диалоговые окна Существует более 20 существующих диалоговых окон, которые были усовершенствованы для возможности изменения размера. Сортировка параметров проекта в свойствах Теперь параметры проекта сортируются в алфавитно-цифровом порядке в диалогах свойств экземпляра и типа. Параметры семейств не изменились по сравнению с предыдущим поведением. Архитектурная дисциплина Архитектурная дисциплина имеет несколько новых возможностей и порадует многих архитекторов и дизайнеров. Стиль представления «Текстуры» В Revit появился новый стиль представления под названием "Текстуры". Я был в бета-группе пользователей этого стиля. Он представляет собой нечто среднее между затененным и реалистичным. Sorting of Project Parameters in Properties Project parameters are now sorted alphanumerically in the instance and type properties dialogs. Family parameters are unchanged from previous behavior. Architectural The architectural discipline has several new features and will make a lot of architects and designers happy. Of course, we will all have wishlist items not found in the update.
Be sure to head to the Revit Ideas site and make sure you post or vote for enhancements you want. Here is an example of a much needed enhancement to the Bind Revit Link Revit Idea that would maintain phases — most do not realize that all phase settings are lost when you bind a Revit link until they need to do it! Textures View Style Revit has a new view style called Textures.
I was in the beta user group for this one. It is a cross between shaded and realistic. It shows the appearance asset texture but without global lighting, so the materials are a consistent color on all surfaces and at all angles.
It is possible to have ambient and sun shadows on in this mode as shown in the examples below. Figure 19. Textures view style example with ambient shadows on.

The site tools represent the most significant change in Revit 2024 for architects, which is both exciting and a little scary! We now have a toposolid command rather than a toposurface. As the name change implies, the ground is now represented by solid geometry rather than a 2D surface.
This is the exciting part. Missing from the ribbon below is the building pad command, which is the scary part — I will explain this in the next section. Figure 24.
Comparing Revit 2024 site tools to previous versions. Toposolid Replaces Toposurface Although the toposurface and building pads are no longer available, they are preserved when a model is updated to Revit 2024. Those elements can be modified and copied.
You just cannot create new instances as the commands are gone. Figure 25 shows a toposurface and building pad after an initial model upgrade. Figure 25.
Example of a pre-Revit 2024 toposurface and building pad. To convert a toposurface, select it and follow the steps shown in Figure 26. Step 2 involves selecting a toposurface family type that can have several surface characteristics preset.

Since there is no building pad tool, Autodesk recommends that an in-place mass set to cut the toposolid be created, as shown in Figure 27. This provides a lot more options, like tunnels and sloped edges. The biggest challenge is that the workflow is not as intuitive for the average Revit user, in my opinion.

In this version you can use Floor Slab Edge, but take into account that it can only be placed on the edge of the toposolid, the edge of subdivision is not supported. Improved Project Browser. The Project Browser is modernized and the Search bar is added. Resizable dialogs. Dialog windows can be resized. Project parameters are sorted alphabetically. You can add prefix to the parameter name to sort it as you want.
New Multi-discipline template imperial and metric.
Single template file that replaces templates from previous versions. This improved template includes Views and Sheets set for multiple disciplines and coordination, legend views with symbols and text styles. Improved Project Browser. The Project Browser is modernized and the Search bar is added. Resizable dialogs. Dialog windows can be resized. Project parameters are sorted alphabetically.
You can add prefix to the parameter name to sort it as you want. In Revit 2023, the project parameters are sorted chronologically. Improved visualization Improved integration with Twinmotion. Auto Sync with Twinmotion provides a live link between Revit and Twinmotion. New visual style: Textures. This visual style displays material textures consistently, without lighting effects. Using this visual style you can easily test textures prior to rendering.
These two commands, from the right-click menu, are related to views. They were introduced in Revit 2023. Drag multiple views to sheet. Place multiple views, legends and schedules on a sheet at once. The views will be placed in a grid format. Improved schedules. The row height is no more determined by the font size or by width of the image column.
Now the font height is the minimal value instead of fixed value.

Toposolid — Creation Workflow A toposolid is created similar to a floor element. You start by sketching the perimeter of the ground to be defined and then finish the creation mode. Next, you select the toposurface and use the Add Points option on the ribbon, adjusting the offset value also on the ribbon. Roads and walkways are created using the Sub-Divide tool found on the ribbon when a toposolid is selected. This is similar to the sub-region tool where an enclosed area is defined within the larger toposolid perimeter. The result is a solid extrusion which conforms to the ground and can be adjusted vertically. However, the sub-divide height cannot be negative. The last image in this section shows how a mass void can create a tunnel in the toposolid. This was not possible with a toposurface.

Shared Coordinates While there is nothing new with shared coordinates, I wanted to share a link to my YouTube series on the topic Shared Coordinates in Revit that is easy to understand and covers many of the questions that often come up. This workflow will be the same in Revit 2024, even when using the new toposolid element.
This workflow also works on a project hosted in BIM 360. Figure 32. The shared coordinates workflow. Cut Geometry Enhancement With the advent of the toposolid, there have been enhancements to what kind of elements can be used to cut other elements. Because the toposolid is a solid, Revit does not know that other elements should automatically cut it. If you have foundation walls going below grade, for example, you now have to use the Cut tool and select the wall and the toposolid to get the correct graphic results in a section. Pattern Alignment The Align tool now has an option to apply the alignment to the entire surface. In the example below, the surface has sub-elements applied to slope portions of the surface. This can result in the surface pattern not aligned across the entire floor element.
This new feature helps with the new alignment, whereas earlier, it only allowed for the selected face option. Figure 33. The new Entire Surface option for Align. Figure 34. The pattern aligned over the entire surface. Other Disciplinary Enhancements Revit 2024 has several non-architectural product enhancements that are listed below. Be sure to check out the official Autodesk blog post for more details on them. Structural Enhanced point loads on panels Enhanced analytical loads.
Once you have linked Coordination Models, you can manage these files in the Coordination Model tab located in the Manage Links menu. As you can see in the example below, every surface of the floor has been aligned individually with the same pattern. To reset the pattern, you can use the Entire Surface again. This style can be described as a hybrid mode between Consistent Colors and Realistic. It will show textures like in the Realistic mode but without the global lights which sometimes can be a little buggy on floorplans. You can use the Texture style for presentation in 3D views, or floor planners, for example. However, Revit 2024 has introduced its own Color Book. This Color Book has premade colors of different sets that can be used for different materials, filled regions, etc. Not only do the Color Books feature a variety of pre-existing color sets, such as Pantone colors, but they have also expanded to include RAL colors. Furthermore, you are allowed to search for a color in the blank field below the Color Books dialog. In order to use this feature properly, you need to be very precise when typing your search terms into the blank field. After downloading or creating your own Color Book, you can put the. Also, the visual styles are very inconsistent in their behavior when adding them to your project and when printing them in Vector Or Raster mode.
Revit now offers intervals of 15, 30, 45, and 60 seconds, which allows you to analyze shadows with greater accuracy. In addition, you can drag the Sun along its path in Perspective mode instead of using the Orthographic mode. These models are lightweight and elements can be selected. You can read out the information from the selected element in the Properties Browser. One of the main benefits is the capability to link models from previous versions of Revit without upgrading them. This feature is very useful when collaborating with other stakeholders who are working with older model versions. The search starts automatically and updates relevant results as you type. The matched keywords are highlighted in the filtered list on all levels of the hierarchy in the Project Browser. Schedule Revision Clouds Quickly manage your revision cloud parameter information using revision cloud schedules. Create revision cloud schedules to better review and manage all the revision clouds in your project, and see which view or sheet they belong to.
The Textures view style is ideal for creating presentation-ready views that showcase your design intent and material choices. Shaded visual style.
Textures visual style. I find it very helpful to be able to create high quality images of my model without having to spend too much time or resources. This is a simple but handy feature that can save you time and clicks when creating sheets. Drag and drop the selection to a sheet. Sheets are automatically arranged in a grid layout based on their size.
This feature is very useful when working with other teams or consultants using different versions of Revit. This feature eliminates the need to use third-party tools or workarounds to link models from different versions, reducing the risk of data loss or corruption when upgrading models to newer versions.
