The Haku foil is so extremely thin that it must be applied by hand with exquisite craftsmanship, achieving a delicate shine reminiscent of moonlight reflecting over ocean waves. New for 2024, Luxury and Executive Packages include a wood and leather-trimmed heated steering wheel. The striking cut glass ornamentation draws inspiration from Japanese Kiriko glassware. Traditional Kiriko patterns are created using a technique that involves hand-cutting clear colors and delicate lines in a piece of glass, which are then repeatedly polished to a soft glow. The LS pays considerable attention to the rear seats. There are options for both heating and massage in addition to the Executive Package which adds a passenger-side seat which can be reclined, when the vehicle is parked, up to 48 degrees, an angle chosen for its precise level of comfort. Fully automated Advanced Park Lexus takes all the effort out of parking with its fully automated Advanced Park system, appearing for the first time on the new LS 500h. It is also the first Lexus system and the first in the luxury car segment to have a memory function that will recognise and store details of spaces the driver uses regularly, making the parking process even easier. The system goes further than any previous Lexus parking assistance technology, by controlling steering, throttle, brakes and transmission to execute safe and accurate manoeuvres. As well as being smooth and precise, it also operates promptly — the time taken to execute a parking manoeuvre is quicker than rival systems. After drawing up alongside a parking space, the driver engages the system which then uses clearance sonars and the Panoramic View Monitor camera to gain a 360-degree view of the area and any obstacles. Toyota launched Lexus to advertise its cars internationally while continuing to sell the same cars in Japan under the Toyota name until 2005. The LS 400 performed admirably in its initial debut! The outstanding sales of the LS on the North American continent were mostly due to two factors.
Toyota had a record for building durable vehicles while not being known for producing the most opulent vehicles. The cost of the car is the second factor. Up until recently, Americans could chose a good, opulent car like Cadillac or the somewhat pricey BMW and Mercedes produced by German automakers. Popularity of the LS Toyota produced the LS in Japan, where the Yen was depreciating annually against the USD, allowing them to offer the more opulent vehicle than both the Beemer and the Merc at far lower rates while still turning a healthy profit. Thus, the Lexus was more affordable than all three and faster than the BMW, and Mercedes, and featured more technology and amenities than the Cadillac.
The big disappointment, though, is rear head room. That said, those up front should be pretty chuffed. The boot, meanwhile, is not anything to shout about in this class, because its capacity is around 100 litres less equating to a couple of suitcases than its Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz rivals. Even the entry-level version has a price that starts with a seven, while a top-spec Premier model with the luxurious cut-glass and pleated trim will cost six figures. Still, all models get fancy 20in wheels, leather seats that are electrically adjustable up front, an around-view monitor, automatic emergency braking and a big 12. Luxury trim is our favourite, though, because you get a Mark Levinson stereo, four-zone climate control and heating, cooling and electrical adjustment for the rear seats for not a lot of extra cash. As for Premier, it does have all the toys but it is pricey.
