Новый стадион «Авангарда» получил название «G-Drive Арена»
Плюс ко всему ледовый дворец должен был стать одной из площадок для Молодежного чемпионата мира по хоккею, который планировалось провести в России в 2023 году. Изначально право принять этот турнир получил только Новосибирск, но позже к нему присоединился и Омск. По проекту По изначальным планам и эскизам проекта новой арены в Омске, которое разработало московское архитектурное бюро ABD architects, сооружение должно было представлять из себя пятиэтажное здание вместимостью в 11 тысяч зрителей: 5742 места на первом ярусе, 712 — на VIP-ярусе и 4512 — на третьем ярусе. Однако затем планы скорректировали, доработали и изменили: здание стало шестиэтажным площадью более 64 тыс. Трибуны — трансформируемые, что позволит менять размер основной хоккейной площадки от 60 на 26 метров до 60 на 30 метров. В новой арене должны были появиться многочисленные точки питания, магазины клубной атрибутики, интерактивные развлечения для детей, фото- и тематические зоны. Для хоккеистов здесь должны были построят бассейн, спортзал, восстановительный центр и много чего еще. Успеют vs не успеют Символический старт строительства нового ледового дворца в Омске 3 июля 2020 года дали губернатор Омской области и председатель Совета директоров ХК «Авангард» Александр Крылов, установив на строительной площадке флаг «ястребов». Уже ко 2 ноября того же года началось возведение первого этажа будущего ледового дворца: устройство вертикальных конструкций и армирование бетонных колон. За ходом строительства можно было следить посредством онлайн камер, которые были установлены на стройплощадке.
На старте этой знаковой для Омска стройки Бурков и Крылов заявили, что «Авангард» вернется домой к осени 2022 года. Однако разговоры про то, что Арену могут не успеть построить, не смолкали еще очень долго. Впрочем, в январе 2021 года, проконтролировать ход строительства в Омск приезжал советник вице-президента ФХР по вопросам строительства и эксплуатации спортивных сооружений Рамиль Нагимуллин, который заявил, что омскую арену строят с опережением графика на несколько недель. Также всех не веривших успокоил президент России Владимир Путин, когда поздравлял «Авангард» с победой в Кубке Гагарина 29 апреля 2021 года. Это станет не только отличным подарком для одного из замечательных сибирских городов, но, уверен, послужит расширению географии настоящих хоккейных столиц России», — заявил глава государства.
