Tier 1 paladins are mostly likely to be encountered by player characters between levels 1 and 4, although they may crop up as allies or henchpeople of more powerful beings at later levels.

This gives Paladins a list of class-exclusive smite spells that are always prepared, with new spells being unlocked as they level up. These can also be used without expending a spell slot once before needing to Long Rest. Spellcasting has seen three major changes for Paladins that are as follows: Spell preparation is no longer tied to the level of Paladin spell slots. Paladins can change one prepared spell when finishing a long rest.
Paladins no longer have cantrips as in previous playtests. Instead, they receive the Weapon Mastery feature. Lay on Hands is now a Bonus Action, meaning players can use it alongside attacking, healing, using a spell, or any other move that requires an Action.
Aura of Protection has returned to 6th-level and will now become inactive if the Paladin is incapacitated.
On top of this, you also get a fighting style to enhance your combat. At mid tier levels, they get access to auras that increase the saving throws of allies and make them immune to frightened. You can also take fighting styles that help you protect allies too like interception and protection. Backup healers: Paladins are not proper healers like druids and clerics, but being able to rely on lay on hands for even a single hp when an ally is down is hugely valuable, rather than potentially wasting your efforts with a medicine check. Face skills: Paladins rely a lot on charisma which inadvertently makes them a great face for the party. Despite their versatility, they do in fact have weaknesses: Stealth: Paladins generally need to invest in strength, constitution and charisma leaving little else for other abilities like dexterity. You armor proficiency will sort this out. You can swap out strength for dexterity and go for finesse weapons, but this is a little harder to balance, especially with so many ability scores to optimise and when armor is so easy to up your AC instead. This makes you poor at sneaking about in your clunky armor unless you take it off and go in unprotected.
Ranged combat: Similarly, without a high dexterity, paladins tend to be poor at ranged combat. There are some weapons with the thrown property which are your best options here. Paladin spells generally enhance rather than form a full attack like a fireball. How to play as a paladin Paladins are widely considered one of the stronger classes. They are tough with lots of HP, access to all armour types for high AC and spells that can enhance this too , deal lots of damage especially when paired with smites and can heal. Because of this, paladins tend to work best in the thick of melee combat. Despite this, there are a few ways to approach combat with a paladin that you can use depending on the style of play you want to use: Tank Good for: Soaking up damage, dealing melee damage, protecting less durable party members. Creating a tank: High strength for melee weapons , high constitution, heavy armor to increase AC full plate if you can afford it , take a shield too. Focus on spells and fighting styles that will help you last longer in combat like shield of faith and defense. At low levels, this will make you extremely difficult to hit with 21-23AC if you can get full plate but tends to mean you do less damage during combat.
Holy Warrior Good for: Dealing high damage, still reasonably durable and very much a frontline combatant Creating a warrior: High strength for melee weapons , high constitution, heavy armor to increase AC full plate if you can afford it. Two-handed weapons are best with the great weapon fighting style but if you opt for a sword and shield which is statistically a better build then the dueling fighting style can help compensate for some of the lost damage output. Use your spell slots on smites to maximise your damage output. How it works: holy warrior builds are also great at wading into combat, and while they can definitely soak up a fair bit of damage, will lack the AC of a tank build to absorb as many attacks. Instead, you can focus on thinning the herd in an attack is the best form of defence kind of method.
Divine Health 4 — A ribbon ability, but it comes at the same level as your subclass which makes it a nice bonus. This would be a 5 if it was an active ability or more universally applicable. Extra Attack 5 — The essential increase for every martial, well except the Rogue, this is especially nice for a Paladin as it gives more opportunities to smite either Divine or spell-based.
Aura of Protection 5 — A superb feature, not only is this a significant defensive boost for yourself, but the whole party can benefit. Even with a lower Cha modifier, this can be the difference between your party failing some nasty saves which can lead to a TPK, or being victorious. The higher your Charisma the better this is, but even with a middling modifier this is still a great ability. Aura of Courage 4 — Frightened is a fairly common monster-imposed condition, so being immune to it, whilst making your party immune is very nice. Improved Divine Smite 5 — Not only a substantial damage increase, being able to do radiant damage every hit can come in handy against certain creatures, like vampires and zombies. Note: This does not apply to unarmed strikes unless you are making them with natural weapons. Cleansing Touch 2 — Whilst this ability could prove crucial in saving yourself of a party member, an action is a significant cost for most Paladins and there are far too many creatures who can impose effects independent of spellcasting. Aura Improvements 4 — Your auras will now likely cover your entire party for most combats, unless your party likes to really spread out of course.
This is a significant defensive buff, however, at this level it feels a little lacking as the only feature. Some styles may be rated differently here than they were in the Fighter 5E guide, this is because the opportunity cost for a Paladin taking a Fighting Style is lower, as their available styles are far fewer. Dueling 5 — A great damage boost to one-handed weapons that scales with the number of attacks you get. Best for shield users and Dex based Paladins; better than using two hands with a longsword for Str based Paladins. Great Weapon Fighting 2 — If you reroll when you roll under the average damage for your chosen great weapon, this can be a damage boost. Keep in mind the attack may still hit, even with disadvantage. If you were already looking to play a shield-using Paladin, and have some party members willing to fight shoulder to shoulder, this can be a good tanking choice. TCoE Blessed Warrior 4 — If you want to play less of a martial Paladin, or are just looking for some more casting support, this is a great style.
Stand-out choices include Guidance and Toll the Dead , of course the higher your Charisma the better for the latter. Blind Fighting 3 — This style does bring something to the Paladin they would have a hard time getting otherwise, blindsight, but its usefulness is pretty niche. This warrants a 3 because it is something your party can build around, such as making use of Darkness and Fog Cloud. Interception 4 — Unlike Protection, this will always help your ally. The additional Fighting Styles have already been covered above, and we will go through the remaining optional features in this section. Harness Divine Power 5 — This is a fantastic ability, making your Paladin more efficient and opening up your options. This is nice to have for some tables, and fairly redundant for others. The exact spread of stats you want depends on your build and personal priorities: some will want to max out both their attack stat and their Cha; others will be focused on being an effective martial and would be happy to leave their Cha lower; whilst some might have a middling attack stat and focus on Charisma to play a support role.
You should consider your stats and priorities when you allocate your ability scores and choose a race at first level. Moreover, if you see your paladin as a warrior first you should ideally start with a 16 and advance it as quickly as you can. If you want to include feats from ASIs, try to get your Str to 18 first as this will help maintain your martial performance and consistency. However, if you choose to use light armor instead of medium armor, you will be more dependent on this stat for AC than your counterparts would be dependent on Str for theirs. Generally speaking, Dexadins gain a lot of benefits from their primary stat, such as high initiative and better Dex saves and skills, at the expense of one point lower AC and not using heavy or versatile weapons. Even if you focus on Str, having some degree of Dex is recommended for those benefits. Constitution 3 — This is a very nice stat to have as high as possible. The hit points will help with tanking and being in melee, and the higher chance to maintain concentration on your spells is very useful.
However, being a MAD class means you likely cannot afford a particularly high score here, try and aim for no less than a 14, ideally a 16. Wisdom 3 — A good tertiary stat to have, if you think you may want to multiclass into a Wis requiring class then try to have at least a 14, otherwise whatever you can afford to put here is a good choice. Charisma 5 — Cha is a great stat to have, it ties to many of your class features and will make you a more effective Paladin. Even if you dump it to 8, a lot of abilities have a minimum of one use clause in them and other key features like Divine Smite and Lay on Hands have no interaction with Cha at all. I recommend putting at least a 16 here, but you are by no means a bad Paladin if you decide otherwise. On the other hand, I would say Paladins are one of the more heavily affected classes in terms of role play, with the Oaths and the tenets that they present acting as a strong base to ground your character in, should you choose to do so. In our Paladin DnD 5E guide, we suggest that unless there is a particular spell or CD that is important for your build or really interests you, I would recommend choosing an Oath which resonates most with your character. There is an additional Oath option, the Oathbreaker, which will not be covered here as it is a DM-facing subclass, primarily intended for NPCs.
Channel Divinity options will be denoted by [CD]. Devotion The more stereotypical of the Paladin Oaths , Devotion is driven by justice, virtue, and order, in true knight in shining armor fashion. Their abilities and spells are geared towards fighting the stereotypical enemy of Paladins: fiends, undead, and aberrations but they are also effective against other foes. In practice, losing your first action of a fight is a very steep cost. This gets a 3 for helping you overcome resistance or immunity to non-magical BPS, and the potential it has in longer combats. Aura of Devotion 4 — Situational, but the amount of charmed-based effects on monsters is surprisingly large. This is worthy of a 4 as it completely shuts down the dangerous aspect of some creatures, and saves the party from the Barbarian being controlled by a spell like Dominate Monster… again. Purity of Spirit 4 — A very powerful passive benefit, Protection from Evil and Good covers a large number of creature types, making this relevant in a lot of situations.
Holy Nimbus 3 — This capstone is okay, but nothing special, primarily because of the action cost with so little in return. Additionally, saves against spells cast by fiends and undead are very niche, not protecting you from their non-spell abilities is disappointing. This would have been a 4 if it only cost a bonus action to activate.
Defensive bonuses are also useful early though some options may be less effective later. Enlarge gives you advantage on STR checks and saves, plus an extra d4 damage on each attack. They get Darkvision, advantage against charm and immunity to sleep. Boosted darkvision and Faerie Fire can help in an ongoing underground campaign, and the sunlight sensitivity hurts if you go outside. Maybe you can wear a big fancy hat like Jarlaxxle. The new Fey Step also has a side effect depending on what season you are, which you can change any day you want. Note that Winter is a frightening effect and is thus valuable for Conquest.
Using a bonus action you can do a short range teleport that gives you resistance to all damage. A solid defensive option. Relying on at least 3 stats makes this a decent idea but not an incredible one. Get a head start on your character concept with a feat! The small size but without the benefits of Lucky or the Dex Bonus. Many Paladins will want to consider this, there are even more sub-race options on Half-Elf now similar to the Elf subraces. Perception is a solid choice in any campaign and the other one is up to you. All the positives with none of the downsides. Good deal. Thematically a Fiend Paladin who is resistant to fire like a Blackguard just sounds badass.
The Variant Tieflings are a mixed bag.. Hellish Rebuke and Darkness give you some ranged options and utility. Charm person and Entrall based on your Charisma spellcasting modifier are also solid options if used correctly. Hellfire : Replacing the hellish rebuke with burning hands helps your ability to handle some hordes, not a huge change though. Winged: Instead of extra spells you get to fly around when not wearing heavy armour. Darkvision, resistance to necrotic and radiant damage, free Light cantrip and a long-rest recharge, scaled-back version of Lay on Hands that means you can conserve some of your actual Lay on Hands. The rest of the abilities are a bit hap-hazard for a Paladin. A big strong Goliath is similar to a Half-Orc where you get Athletics for free instead of Intimidation. Tabaxi get Darkvision, extra movement, built in weapons, and free proficiency in Stealth and Perception. The Cha boost helps a bit too.
Aside from that, swim speed, breathe water and air, talk to water creatures, and cold resistance. Good all around. Also gets Darkvision, free Stealth proficiency and 2d6 extra damage when attacking from surprise. The Int may be less useful for you though. The Saving-Face ability is great in a big party. The bonus action movement helps with getting into melee range which can sometimes be an issue, darkvision and intimidation are solid pickups. Magic resistance and poison immunity plus darkvision. A well rounded choice for any Paladin. DEX Paladins could see some real benefits here. Not bad.
Heavily armored Paladins can use the Strength bonus. Disguising yourself is a nice trick in more social campaigns. Change your Armour composition during a long rest, resistance to poison and immunity to disease. Navigational skills never hurt anyone either. Also think of the fun creature your Find Steed will create and get more Horns in your arsenal. At lower levels though, the difference is much more noticeable. It is less forgiving, and getting dropped is really, really easy. Keep that in mind when looking at races. To the tainted we bring fire. Your main enemy apart from undead will be fiends and eventually any non natural plane creatures.
Sacred Weapon: Lv. An action to add your CHA-modifier to attack rolls for a minute 10 rounds. Does not require Concentration to maintain thus stacks with any other buffs and does not count as a spell which means you can cast a swift spell in the same round. A very good ability for that climactic fight during that part of the day. Turn the Unholy: Lv. Oath Spells overall rating : Lv. All of these are quality spells that are mostly already on the Paladin list. They skew towards buffs or healing spells, though there are a few damaging spells thrown in for good measure. Sanctuary for example is great at protecting a healer. Aura of Devotion: Lv.
Getting immunity to charm for yourself and allies within the Aura is very powerful.
DnD 5. История знакомства. Нам не страшен паладин
All of these are synergistically adding up to keeping you, and consequently your allies, in the fight longer. This build focuses on putting out the highest amount of damage possible with less regard for the well being of yourself or your party. Damage dealers in popular media would be Thor, Rambo, and the Doomslayer. This will increase your attack and damage modifiers. This comes with a slew of useful damage dealing abilities, the most useful being the Channel Divinity option Vow of Enmity and the feature Relentless Avenger.
Your best options for damage dealing are a two handed weapon with the great weapon fighting style or a one handed weapon, shield and the dueling fighting style which works while holding a shield and allows you to take a hybrid approach to damage and defense. Protector Good for: A variation of the tank so great for soaking up attacks, but works closely with allies to protect them from danger. Creating a protector: High strength for melee weapons , high constitution, heavy armor to increase AC full plate if you can afford it. You can take spells like heroism and bless to enhance your allies bless is usually the better option, but heroism is good if you expect to face a frightening enemy and compelled duel to prevent others being attacked. How it works: Tactically, the protector build is the hardest to make work. Interception will be used a little less than the other fighting styles making them technically inferior though not bad. Use your auras to protect allies from conditions, again, staying close to allies. Which subclass should I choose? Oaths tend to form a large part of the ideals for your paladin, so a paladin seeking to make restitution for past crimes might take the oath of redemption while paladins seeking to exact righteous judgement on their foes might take the oath of vengeance. Oath of Devotion Description: Holy warriors, devoted to their cause. Good for: Archetypal paladins with a broad mix of abilities. Oath of the Ancients Description: Paladins that seek to wage war against darkness for a love of light and life. Good for: Paladins that want to be a bit more like a ranger. Good for: Paladins that want to exact as much damage as possible, as quickly as possible. Good for: Paladins that have broken their oaths. Good for: Paladins that want to go big on protecting their allies. Oath of Conquest Description: A paladin sworn to conquer and bring about victory. Good for: Paladins that want to deal more damage and handle crowds better. Oath of Redemption Description: Paladins that believe anyone can be redeemed and will inflict death only as a last resort. Good for: Paladins that prefer to talk first and punch later. Oath of Glory Description: A paladin that has made an oath to win at all costs and have their name etched into legends. Good for: Paladins that like to throw themselves into combat. Oath of the Watchers Description: A paladin that watches for and protects from the unnatural and alien forces of the universe. Good for: Paladins that want to deal with extra-planar threats.
Oppression Su : When a despot reaches 4th level, she gains the supernatural ability to oppress other living creatures by speaking to them and channeling negative energy into the power of her voice. This is a language-dependant, mind-affecting ability. Creatures with chaotic alignments are affected first, and creatures with lawful alignments are affected last. Within the alignment spectrum, closer creatures are affected first. A target that is oppressed becomes sickened with guilt and depression -2 penalty on all attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks for 1 minute. If the despot has twice as many levels or more than any creature that is oppressed, that creature is instead nauseated can only take a single move action each turn for 1 minute. Leadership Ex : Upon reaching 5th level, a despot gains the Leadership feat as a bonus feat. Mark of Justice Sp : At 7th level, a despot can cast mark of justice, as the spell, once per week. She can use this ability one additional time per week for every four levels after 7th, to a maximum of 4 times a week at 19th level. Code of Conduct A despot must be of lawful evil alignment and loses all class abilities if she ever willingly commits a chaotic act such as breaking a vow or contract or betraying an ally. She must at all times work to expand and grow her domain, either by virtue of the Leadership feat or by strong-arming those less fortunate and powerful than herself. She is allowed to abuse her sovereignty in any way she sees fit to further her own personal strength and glory, but she must protect and defend her subjects and allies from harm from other forces. Likewise, she must not overburden her subjects so that they cannot support her. Associates A despot adventures only with characters of a non-chaotic alignment and remains suspicious and wary of those who are not lawful. She will never knowingly associate with chaotic characters, nor will she continue an association with someone who consistently offends her moral code.
Game Mechanics: Various utility spells assist in stopping combat abilities. This paladin gets the ability to have a long period of time with charisma bonuses. But, if it comes to combat, they can take the damage dealt by their opponents and deal it right back at them. At later levels, you will be able to take damage intended for your allies, heal yourself at every turn, and ultimately have resistance to all damage. Play-style: A stark contrast from the paladin of conquest, you enjoy the diplomacy and interrogation of others. To you, violence and physical confrontation means failure. However, if you do need to defend your friends, you want to see yourself as the equal and opposing force to the enemy. People are just obstacles to be dismissed from your path of dominance. Game Mechanics: Additional spells have a heavy focus on attacking and animating the dead. They can emit an aura of fear to turn opponents. At later levels, the oathbreaker can deal additional melee damage, granting this bonus to their allies ie. At higher levels, the oathbreaker gains resistance to some forms of damage and, within a powerful aura, can cause a growing darkness to surround them and harm those that dare to try and attack. Play-style: Although intended as a villainous class to use the undead to attack enemies, a player may be able to focus more on the element of utilizing the dead as allies in fighting for good. In either case, you want to focus paladin spells on attacking, and to have a regiment of undead by your side. Alex Louise Armstrong Fullmetal Alchemist Oath of Glory MOT Theme: Glorious Paladins aim to add pages to the legends of themselves and their deities by performing extraordinary athletic feats, not only in combat, but in adventure too. They value a sound body to find a sound mind. Game Mechanics: Use channel divinity to gain 10 minutes of advantageous athletics and acrobatics, while also able to carry, push, and drag twice as much weight as normal.
Paladin 5e – DnD Class Guide
We saw White show up in our Cleric video and yet both represent different sides of the color. For the Cleric this color denotes service to a higher power, and whites proclivity to gravitate towards religion. In the case of the Paladin, it keys into ideas of strict morality, resolve, and justice. White is the color who often works in absolutes, seeing the worlds as black and white. They hold themselves and the world around them to a code of conduct, often through laws or judgment. White is shrewd in its outlook and enacts its ideals as the literal and only law. This can lead to both truly heroic and selfless characters or that of authoritarian and oppressive ones. I believe that the Paladin can be built in both ways, even through oaths which are outwardly facing as good. This absolute mindset and devoted nature is why White matches so well with the Paladin. To start off I want to take our core color and add in Red to see what sort of Paladin is bread from these colors influences. Coloring their view of the world around them, and vengeance can seem like the only outlet for such emotions. Not just vengeance on those who did them wrong, but against all who act with hate towards others. It is an act of violence against those who do wrong to the weak and judgment handed out is this characters only recourse. What I mean is that there are those are acted upon by ruthless external forces who are unable to stand up to such aggressors and the oath of vengeance paladin is there to fill in that role, by being that act of recourse for those unable to do so, placing fear in the heart of those who bring fear to others. In the case of our White Red character they had felt the hand of an evil force mar their view of the world and vowed that such horrific actions should never go unpunished. They found that the sword, shield and divine magic were tools they could use to enact vengeance on the behalf of others, for those who could not stand up for themselves. They now see themselves as Judge Jury and executioner. This outlook and life have hardened them with an unquenchable resolve. You see a traumatic experiences at a young age can harden a person and such is the case of this version of the Paladin. One which defines the characters life thereafter. White in this regard is the expression of Judgment and Justice, justice on the behalf of others to weak to stand against the darkness of the world. The issue is that Justice is blind, and can be dished out when it is potentially not appropriate. This can add a lot of nuance to your character when playing them.
Anti-Paladin (5e Class)
Паладин — класс которого не было в самой первой редакции D&D. Появился он только в дополнении, как вариант развития законопослушного воина. In this Paladin DnD 5E guide, we’ll train you on your options as a Paladin, as well as supportive choices you can make to build your character to achieve what you want. The Paladin table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells. Если паладин не является вашим начальным классом, вот владения, которые вы приобретаете, когда берете свой первый уровень паладина: лёгкие доспехи, средние доспехи, щиты, простое оружие, воинское оружие.
Paladin 5e Guide: What Are The Paladins in DnD 5E?
The largest damage die d12 , yields an average of 2 extra damage per turn. The reaction option also makes things like Fighting Style: Protection redundant. Sharpshooter PHB : Paladins are terrible at ranged combat. Skilled PHB : You can get all the skills you need from your race, class, and background. Slasher TCoE : The speed reduction is a great way to keep enemies from escaping you. Advantage on your save to maintain Concentration is a solid bonus for Paladins since many very effective buffs require Concentration, but I would consider Resilient before you consider this. If you can pick up a Cantrip like Booming Blade or Word of Radiance, this becomes considerably more interesting. Paladin Weapons This section covers weapons which specifically appeal to the Paladin. For more advice on choosing weapons, including those not addressed here, see our Practical Guide to Weapons. Get a polearm. Works best when combined with Polearm Master and Sentinel.
Javelin: Likely your go-to ranged option. Rapier: Go-to option for finesse builds. Paladin Armor Chain Mail: Starting armor. Studded Leather: Armor for finesse builds. For more on multiclassing, see our Practical Guide to Multiclassing. If you do go this route, consider starting with a level of fighter to get proficiency in Constitution saving throws. It will advance your spellcasting twice as fast as Paladin levels, and a single level gets you cantrips and access to the 1st-level abilities of a sorcerous origin. Warlock: A common, popular, and effective option. Though other patrons have plenty to offer, Hexblade is simply too good to pass up. First, the sword glows almost as brightly as a torch, allowing you to see in dark places without devoting a hand to a torch and without asking your allies to cast light or something.
Second, and more important, it allows you to overcome damage resistance to non-magic attacks.
Blind Fighting. General utility in darkness -focused group or setting. Lay on Hands. Your pool of available healing scales with level. Divine Smite.
Divine Health. Extra Attack. Aura of Protection. Aura of Courage. Improved Divine Smite. Cleansing Touch.
Aura Improvements. Paladin Spells Paladin spells are largely centered around utility, support, healing, and boosting Paladin attacks with various smite effects. Plus, Divine Smite expends spell slots, so Paladin gameplay usually involves always maintaining at least one spell slot in reserve for when you land a critical strike and want to apply big-time Divine Smite damage to it. Without getting into all the various uses, here are some of the best Paladin spells in 5e by level: 1st-level. Blinding Smite, Revivify, Spirit Shroud 4th-level. Death Ward, Find Greater Steed 5th-level.
Banishing Smite, Destructive Wave, Holy Weapon Paladin Feats Paladins should usually focus on maxing out their Charisma ability score as fast as possible by spending their Ability Score Increases on it rather than feats. This increases your number of prepared spells and makes Aura of Protection more effective. Some of the best feats for Paladins in 5e include: Polearm Master. A free low-damage bonus action attack and the ability to make an opportunity attack when someone enters your reach. This feat really shines, however, when paired with the Sentinel feat. Good for a tank, and great when paired with Polearm Master — because it prevents an enemy from even getting in range to hit you if you freeze them 10 feet away from you with a reach weapon.
Inspiring Leader. Great Weapon Master. Gives you a free attack after a killing blow or critical strike and allows you to deal bigger damage at the cost of a less accurate attack. Resilient Constitution.
Personality: Elyssa has a strong sense of duty and justice that she strives to uphold in herself and others. She lives by the law and believes in the power of the law to bring peace and order to Grabisco. Her sense of humor is often dry and sarcastic, earning her a reputation as a tough customer.
This is especially true when it comes to criminals. Appearance: With strawberry blonde hair and matching eyes, Elyssa is a beautiful young woman. She forgoes armor in favor of the leather armor worn by the militia of Kreston. She spent years searching for the perpetrators and avenging her family and village, but she never found them. Now she is searching for a new place to call home and have a chance to rebuild her life. He was like a lion or tiger, and he had a fearless sense of adventure. When he was old and frail, he taught his daughter everything he knew about fighting and hunting, hoping she would continue the family legacy after he passed away.
She chose a different path, however, joining the clerics in Yorebridge. Zaela trained under the Lord Marshall of the Grabisco Army. She learned at an early age that her people halflings were not as popular as humans or elves. She trained hard and became a powerful cleric-warrior, and was the only halfling to become a Lord Marshall. Zaela eventually took over the role as leader of the clerics in Yorebridge and the surrounding area. With the attack by the dragon, Gulo, Zaela has been called upon once again to protect her people. The Green Dragon Gulo was born many years ago.
With a head as big as a horse, and a huge wingspan, he was the biggest dragon in the land. He was very cunning and powerful. People feared him. He liked to drink the blood of humans and halflings, and enjoyed destroying small farms and villages in the countryside. He was not above eating a dog or chicken, either. His size was intimidating, and he was tough to defeat! The elves were the first to come up with a plan to defeat the dragon Gulo.
They called on a group of human warriors called the Red Dragons. Zaela, serving as a Lord Marshall, led the army into battle with Gulo. That battle was the bloodiest and most difficult battle Zaela had ever been involved in. Gulo had been ready for them, however.
Adjure Foes will now do nothing on a successful save.

Another group of Red Dragons then entered his mouth and cut off his great golden tongue. The Redians were rewarded by the king. The queen was very thankful for the death of her nemesis. She offered Zaela and her clerics a permanent place in Yorebridge Castle if she ever needed a safe place to stay. With the death of Gulo, peace in the land has once again been established. But more than once, someone has thought of reviving the great dragon Gulo from his sleep beneath Yorebridge Castle. Some think it is just a rumor, while others are sure that someone is trying to recreate one of the most powerful dragons in history! It will be up to Hunter and Zaela to stop these people before they destroy the world all over again! Personality: Xanthe is an idealist. She is determined to protect the weak and weak of heart.
She will always try to do the right thing and see the good in others— even when it seems impossible. Her ambition is to travel around the world and do good wherever she goes. Appearance: Xanthe is a tall, thin halfling with dark green hair. She is very muscular from years of training and fighting. Her striking, blue eyes make her appear even taller. When she is on her horse, she dons a beautiful long, white robe that features a depiction of Helm on the back. Start of Character: She is intent on helping the war effort of the Grabisco Kingdom and finding adventure wherever it takes her. He was taken in by an order of paladins and raised as one of their own. He became famed for his numerous heroic deeds, including slaying a dragon.
He was dubbed a paladin of light. He has set out to rid the world of the evil that lurks in the dark. His current task is to gather a group of adventurers to destroy the Dark Master, who has corrupted the Kingdom of Grabisco. Larak is a likable fellow. As a Paladin of Light, he travels the Kingdom of Grabisco, performing miracles and fighting evil whenever it rears its ugly head. He is passionate about his work, and tough in combat, although he prefers to negotiate with enemies before resorting to violence. Larak is one of the seven Paladins of Light that disappeared during the Great War. They remain missing to this day. A faithful paladin, Larek is plagued by doubt after learning that the Dark Master was truly his brother Setral.
The downside of fighting with a Half-Orc Paladin is that they lack a Charisma bonus. Mountain Dwarf Dwarves make great paladins from a lore and background perspective. Their ability scores and modifiers are not optimal, but they are more than passable. However, dwarves are much better as clerics, like the life domain cleric. What makes dwarves an excellent race for paladins in 5e DnD is that they are more interested in good order and the rule of law than other races on this list.
Honor and oaths are significant in dwarven society, and grudges can be carried for centuries or even millennia. Next to that ability score increase, you also get a lot of interesting racial features like Dwarven Resilience advantage throw against poison and Darkvision. The main thing they have going for them is that they have a very easy backstory to work with.
Red in this context is the anger which is bread our character and their chosen oath. There is an rage which is inherent in vengeance whether it is justified or not, and this can mare our paladins view of the world. When we create our characters we want them to be complex and faults such as these can bread complexity and lead to moments that some Paladin role-players might be afraid to tread and yet by using the colors present their hand is forced.
Preserve Your Own Light: Delight in the beauty of the world. Be the Light: Let your love of the world be an inspiration for all around you. What are the Oath of the Ancients spells? As your level increases, you will eventually be able to cast plant growth, protection from energy, ice storm , stoneskin, commune with nature, and tree stride. Other Oath of the Ancients abilities Like the other Sacred Oaths, the Oath of the Ancients will grant you special abilities at certain levels. Turn the Faithless: You can force fey or fiends to run away from you in fear. Aura of Warding: At 7th level, you and your friends nearby are resistant to damage from spells. Some call these Paladins dark knights or avengers. What are the tenets of the Oath of Vengeance? The tenets of the Oath of Vengeance are the most different from the other Sacred Oaths. Unlike the Oath of Devotion or the Oath of the Ancients, they often lack mercy and forgiveness. Instead, they are rooted in cruel vengeance against those who have committed sins. The tenets of the Oath of the Ancients are: Fight the Greater Evil: You will always attack the greater evil in a scene rather than lesser evils. No Mercy for the Wicked: You never show mercy to your true enemies, but you may be merciful towards inconsequential foes. By Any Means Necessary: You care little about consequences or morals outside of your search for vengeance. Restitution: You help those who are harmed by your enemies. This helps you stop enemies from fleeing. Soul of Vengeance: At 15th level, if you use your Vow of Enmity on an opponent, you can make an extra attack on that enemy. Avenging Angel: At 20th level, you can transform into a winged avenger for one hour. You will grow wings and be able to fly and enemies will run in fear from you.
