Friday, July 28, 2017 Mendelssohn - Rondo Capriccioso For Piano, Opus 14 No one is quite sure when Felix Mendelssohn composed the Rondo Capriccioso, with some musicologists offering up as early as 1824 when he was 15 years old. But there is certainty when it was fully composed and revised, for Mendelssohn put the date of June 13, 1830 on the revision. Perhaps Mendelssohn revised it for a specific pianist, Delphine von Schauroth, who was from Munich. They had met earlier in Paris in 1825, and Mendelssohn was quite taken with her.

The Rondo Capriccioso is in two sections: Andante In E Major - Modern research has determined that this section was added to the original etude in E minor during the revision of 1830. It lyrically leads to a segue to the next section. The technical demands on the pianist are not excessive, but there are some rapidly repeating thirds in the right hand that are a challenge to play in tempo with the lightness of touch needed. Material from the opening section returns briefly, and the music shifts to E minor for an ending in thundering alternating octaves.

Не верится, чтобы при скромных размерах водоема такими... А точнее, не разочаровала, а просто хочется чего-то большего. Недавно вот ловил щучку, испытал массу новых эмоций, это было интересно и получил незабываемый опыт.
The peaceful atmosphere is interrupted when the semiquavers overtake the beautiful melody and force the music through a C major passage that seems slightly hurried.
When E major returns, a series of diminished seventh chords gradually darken the scene with minor mode colours. It creates a sense of unity of musical content between the two sections that were composed in different years. Mendelssohn also employed this procedure in several other works, including Piano Concertos Nos. The Presto leggiero that comes next explores closely related keys G and E majors before returning to E minor, its home key. Fortissimo plunging octaves, flashy arpeggios at an ever quickening pace, fast oscillating parallel thirds, and chromatic scales infuse this vigorous section, requiring decent techniques from the performer.
Regardless, a version of the piece was indeed completed by 1828. Two years later, Mendelssohn revised the work, adding the Andante introduction.
This eventual form—a lively movement presaged by a slower introduction—was used by Mendelssohn in later pieces, such as the Andante cantabile e Presto agitato. The introduction in E major begins with three measures of soft, resonant chords over a sturdy bass. Following, a lyrical melody enters, which seems to float effortlessly over the rich chordal underpinnings. Gradually, the serene atmosphere of the opening is disturbed.

Gradually, the serene atmosphere of the opening is disturbed. Sixteenth note figurations overtake the lyrical tune and force the music through a dramatic passage in C major. A climatic return to E major gives way to an aura of mystery as diminished seventh chords slowly darken the whole scene with the hues of the minor mode. Following a close on the dominant of E, the Presto, and the Rondo proper, launches forthwith. It is followed by a wholly Romantic tune in G major, serving as the first episode.
The prior G major melody reappears first, accompanying also a return to the key of E major.
