Mary grew up tap-dancing her way through talent shows and school functions. She was active in her school drama class. After appearing in a number of high school plays, she enrolled at Hendrix College, a highly progressive Southern School located in Conway, Arkansas. And then my friend, one of my older friends from Arkansas, became first lady of the United States and that was Hillary [Clinton]. I had access to an important person, and so Elizabeth and I went to the White House. Hillary was very moved by all that, then began this campaign to make it possible for children to have drugs that have been safely tested so that they knew how much to give them. She lobbied them.
