That is a part of his game that is still developing. Getting used to these guys again. And there will be a few cuts so nobody wants to leave anything out there. I felt it for sure.
It was fun. I want to be that versatile player. Playing left wing, playing centre.
Today I was playing centre out there. Whatever the coach wants to do. They have speed, size, and scoring ability.
We are close friends off the ice. Gauthier is an important leader on this team and the fact that this camp got the juices flowing again with his linemates is more important than what happened during drills. This year we have seven or eight guys from BC.
But, after a season at Boston College and a chat about his future, Gauthier made a surprising decision. Imagine the tension in the locker room if the news had leaked! NHL history is full of such instances. Remember Eric Lindros and the Quebec Nordiques?
The Flyers and the New York Rangers were both interested.
The age groups dictated that to be the best course of action. McGroarty gets 10 more days to recover and get medically cleared. USA will have the option of not registering all of the forwards ahead of Game 1 against Norway in the event McGroarty cannot play yet. It may not come to that, though, as McGroarty was a participant in all drills in practice despite wearing a red non-contact jersey. His incredible skill, creativity and hockey sense were evident, but the 19-year-old players were able to more successfully dislodge him from the puck and he had a harder time getting it back. Hagens not making this particular roster takes nothing away from him as a prospect or his promise as a future star.

Ersson would have a clear leg up on his competition. Now, even if he comes over in 2023-24, he has to make up for lost time against Ersson. That means that Ersson will get at least a couple years to prove he can be an NHL backup or even a 1A before Kolosov even realistically enters the picture. Plus, Ersson looks like a really good young goalie. Really interesting question. So I do believe the underlying theory behind your idea has merit. My general belief with player development is that if a player is ready for the next level, call him up.
After all, there will be tricks and maneuvers that work at the collegiate level but will fail against pros. The Flyers can keep an eye on him at Boston College, but not to the degree that they can in the pros, whether in Lehigh Valley or with the Flyers. Intriguing idea, though. If so, who? And I suspect that even if the Flyers are on the outskirts of the playoff race, they very well might promote a few of them.
Suffice to say, when training camp opens in September, there are going to be a lot of eyes trained on Gauthier who registered 37 points in 32 games for BC his freshman year to see if the timeline to a professional contract might be shortened a bit sooner than expected. Back to the outdoors Even though the Flyers at this point are expected to be nothing more than a borderline playoff team, at best, next season, they still have managed to garner an invitation to another outdoor NHL game. This is nothing new for the Flyers. Plus, for this particular game, the location is convenient for both teams and their followers. Just be sure to bring your foot-warmers … Importance of special teams As we move closer to the Stanley Cup Final in the next week or so, the conference finals have shown us just how much can hinge on special teams play. Safe to say, Philadelphia cannot have a repeat performance of dead-last on the power play they suffered through last year and expect to be involved in postseason play in 2024. The expected returns of Sean Couturier back surgery and Cam Atkinson neck surgery should help the cause greatly.

Off of it, he finishes his checks and looks to help his line get it back. His greatest strength is his catch-and-release. He can sling it. I fully expect Gauthier to be an impactful NHL player and scorer, and he convinced me more and more as this season progressed that he might have star quality as well. He had him ranked 6th in the 2023 Draft Class, and Shane Wright—2022 4th overall pick—was ranked 14th. Cutter Gauthier has successfully raised expectations for himself. You just might get it. And he got it. Those heightened expectations mean you have to meet them. And Cutter just keeps meeting them.

These numbers tell us that Cutter Gauthier is a very smart forward that can beat teams in multiple ways, without being predictable. He does not attack high-danger very often, however, when he does, he is one of the most effective players in this class doing so. Add to the fact that his off-the-puck abilities is also high-end, he is one of the bigger forwards in the class, and he is a very shifty and slippery skater, and you have a player that has immense offensive upside. Gauthier has all the skills, size, and skating a general manager could ask for in a draft, offensively. That makes him not only a safer option early in the draft, but also a very high upside option as well. But how well does he do with moving the puck up the ice to gain offensive opportunities?
That is where some concerns lie, though he certainly has the skills to improve. When it comes to breaking out of the defensive zone, across those three tracked games, Gauthier cleared the zone with possession on 52. Not to mention, his individual zone exit percentage. In other words the percentage in which Gauthier skated the puck out of the defensive zone himself, successfully. That was down at 26.
He has one goal and five points in 10 games so far this season and missed almost all of last season due to a torn labrum. Needless to say that the Ducks paid a high price to acquire Gauthier, but with Gauthier alongside the likes of Trevor Zegras, Mason McTavish and Leo Carlsson the Ducks are loaded with young offensive talent. He missed majority of the 2022-23 campaign due to a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
The right-shot blueliner set career highs in goals 4 , assists 28 and points 32 in 81 games during the 2021-22 season. He ranked second among all NHL rookie defensemen in 2021-22 in points, assists, shots 137 and games while he became one of four rookie defensemen in Ducks history to record 30-or-more points. He has represented Canada at the 2020 gold and 2021 silver World Junior Championship and became the youngest defenseman since 2001 to appear in a World Junior Championship for Canada in 2020 Jay Bouwmeester, 17 years, 3 months.
