Innate spellcasting options can work nicely as you can make repeat uses. Races that grant you resistances, increased damage and mobility are also great Think Warforged with their resistances and extra AC or Shadar-Kai with their misty step plus damage ability. Backgrounds Recommended options: City watch, courtier, faceless, faction agent, gambler, smuggler, soldier Options to avoid: Archaeologist, fisher, folk hero, inheritor, ruined Considerations: Primarily, you want your background to beef out your skills you only get 2 skill proficiencies with your class. Skills Recommended options: Athletics, insight, intimidation, persuasion Options to avoid: Medicine, religion Considerations: Persuasion is going to be your most important face skill but intimidation can be great too. Feats Recommended options: Gift of the Chromatic dragon, great weapon master, heavy armor master, inspiring leader, lucky, polearm master, resilient, sentinel, slasher Options to avoid: Grappler, healer, keen mind, martial adept, observant, ritual caster, sharpshooter, skulker Considerations: Any feats that make you tougher like heavy armor master , better in combat like great weapon master , use your charisma like inspiring leader or that keep your enemies engaged in combat with you like sentinel. Considerations: Polearms can be really effective for paladins giving them a greater presence on the battlefield. Combine them with sentinel and polearm master to make it really tough for enemies to bypass you for softer party members.
Much will depend on your fighting approach though. Two-handed weapons for damage dealers, one handed for tanks with a shield and if you have gone for a finesse build, consider a rapier. Javelins use strength though and are one handed so tend to be the best option. Armor Recommended options: Heavy armor for low dexterity builds full plate when you can afford it , light armor studded leather is best for high dexterity builds. Options to avoid: Make sure your armor matches with your dexterity score. Medium armor should not be a good option as you should either be dumping dexterity or going all in on it. Add a shield for extra durability at the sacrifice of some damage output. Generally though, a shield is an excellent option for a paladin. Options to avoid: All options are viable depending on your build and no options are bad. Considerations: Defense is your best option for enhancing your durability.
Protector builds will get a decent amount out of interception and protection, but they do rely on more situational circumstances and fighting alongside allies. Blind fighting is even more situational, but great if you can consistently work with your warlock to use darkness against your enemies. Blessed warrior will rarely give you something superior to do with your action unless you intend to take a ranged or out of combat cantrip but tends to be the weaker option. Multiclassing Recommended options: Bard, Sorceror, Warlock Options to avoid: Barbarian, Rogue Considerations: Bards, sorcerors and warlocks are a great option for getting extra spell slots for casting smites and other paladin spells. All 3 classes all use charisma as their spellcasting ability which works nicely for a paladin. Warlock is probably your best option, especially a hexblade. Bards will give you bardic inspiration, spells and extra skills.
Undead creatures regain hit points with this feature, instead of taking damage. Pact Magic[ edit ] At 2nd level, your arcane research and the magic bestowed on you by your vile patron have given you the ability to cast spells. Spell Slots The Anti-Paladin table shows how many spell slots you have. The table also shows what the level of those slots is; all of your spell slots are the same level. To cast one of your Anti-Paladin spells of 1st level or higher, you must expend a spell slot. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a short or long rest. For example, when you are 5th level, you have two 2nd-level spell slots. To cast the 1st-level spell hellish rebuke , you must spend one of those slots, and you cast it as a 2nd-level spell. Preparing and Casting Spells The Anti-paladin table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest. You prepare the list of Anti-Paladin spells that are available for you to cast, choosing from the warlock spell list. The spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots. You can change your list of prepared spells when you finish a long rest. Preparing a new list of Warlock spells requires time spent in contact with supernatural forces through rituals and meditation: at least 1 minute per spell level for each spell on your list.

Paladin 5e Guide
The chase effect is situationally nice, but this subclass does miss out on the utility of a party-wide aura. Oathbreaker DMG. Hellish Rebuke and Inflict Wounds spells and the ability to control undead creatures with Channel Divinity at the 3rd level. Crown of Madness and Darkness spells at 5th level and an aura that causes nearby fiends and undead to take extra damage at 7th level. Controlling undead creatures can be cool, but unless your campaign features a lot of them, this subclass is ultimately one of the weaker ones. Conquest XGtE. Armor of Agathys and Command spells and the ability to frighten creatures in a large area with Channel Divinity at 3rd level. This subclass is all about controlling big crowds of enemies. All four low-level spells that Conquest Paladins get are great and useful to have prepared at all times.
Redemption XGtE. Sanctuary and Sleep spells and the ability to either boost your Persuasion checks or use a reaction to deal mirrored damage at an enemy attacker with Channel Divinity at the 3rd level. Calm Emotions and Hold Person spells at 5th level and an aura that transfers damage taken by an ally to you instead at 7th level. Sleep and Hold Person are good spells, and the ability to have both a useful out-of-combat Channel Divinity is nice, even if the rebuke power is ultimately more powerful when used in the right situation. Glory TCoE. Guiding Bolt and Heroism spells at 5th level and the ability to gain advantage on Athletics and Acrobatics checks or grant temporary hit points to allies after using Divine Smite with Channel Divinity at 3rd level. Enhance Ability and Magic Weapon spells and an aura that increases the movement speed of nearby allies at 7th level. Enhance Ability furthers this even further.
Heroism and the Inspiring Smite facet of Channel Divinity both help solidify this subclass as a wonderful support as well. Watchers TCoE. Alarm and Detect Magic spells and the ability to grant advantage on mental saving throws with their Channel Divinity at 3rd-level. Moonbeam and See Invisibility spells at 5th level and an aura that boosts initiative at 7th level. Watchers are dedicated to not being caught off guard, as their extra spells and class features show. Advantage on mental saving throws Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma for a full minute is quite strong, but the extra spells they get are a bit weak. Crown SCAG. Command and Compelled Duel spells and the ability to prevent enemies from moving away or heal allies with Channel Divinity at 3rd-level.
Warding Bond and Zone of Truth spells at 5th level and the ability to transfer damage taken by an ally within 5 feet at 7th level. However, they sadly miss out on a subclass aura.

Божественное чувство — способность первого уровня, позволяющая паладину ощущать любые проявления нечистых сил. Именно благодаря этой способности Паладины способны находить обманчивых демонов, что притворяются людьми, и мертвецов, прячущихся по углам. Наложение рук — другая способность первого уровня, предоставляющая целительную энергию из особого запаса. Хоть это исцеление и слабее того, что может быть оказано опытным жрецом, оно имеет особую природу, из-за которой воздействовать на него почти никак нельзя. Точно такая же благословенная энергия позднее постоянно защищает Паладина от болезней. Получая Божественную Кару на втором уровне, Паладин может наполнить своё оружие святой энергией, причиняющей врагу непоправимые увечья.
Вас осудят и предадут порицанию. Ведь вы сами выбрали путь паладина. Путь примера и идеала для других, а окружающие очень сильно не любят, когда их мечта, их идеал, оказываются с изъянами и человеческими слабостями.
Это замкнутый круг. Это путь внутренних страданий и добровольных жертв и чтобы пройти эту дорогу до конца, нужна недюжинная сила воли. Редко кто из паладинов доживает до преклонных лет.
Чаще всего они погибают в своих странствиях, либо же совершив подвиг, свидетелями которому были тысячи людей, и имена их у всех на слуху, им ставят большой памятник. Или же они погибают одинокие и забытые, где-то посреди логова зла, у трупа злобной твари, терзавшей небольшой городок. Но и первые и вторые одинаково важны - они делают свою тяжелую работу и достойны уважения.
Неважно, как зовется этот класс: паладины, храмовники, ведьмаки, крестоносцы, рыцари Соламнии. Неважно, в каком мире они находятся. Все они призваны продолжать этот тяжелый путь и выполнять свою миссию.

Их даже не пытаются сделать интересными, показать всю трагедию этой жизни и принесенной добровольной жертвы.
А игроки, восприняв эту информацию, избирают класс сугубо по совокупности способностей и внешнему виду. Вот что печально. Люди нередко видят в паладинах существ, лишенных человеческих страстей, страха и даже инстинкта самосохранения.
Но это не так. Они живые люди, идущие по трудному пути. Так что не стоит относиться к паладинам с пренебрежением: им и без этого непросто оставаться теми, кто они есть.
Half-Orc: Good stat increases, speed, and a skill. Stout: Extra durability in a small frame. Human: Humans are a very versatile race that work well in any class. Variant: You can still increase your main stats, and you have an option to pick up a feat at first level. OrcVGtM: Half-orc is strictly better. And the Eberron variant is the better use of the Orc race. TabaxiVGtM: feline agility functions even in heavy armor, so this race is actually viable for Paladin.
Some of the subraces add even more. Standard: The basic Tiefling grants abilities that help out, but some other variants are better. LevistusMToF: The spells are very useful, but this subrace causes you to miss out on key ability score buffs. ZarielMToF: Good ability score increases, spells, and extra smites. TritonVGtM:Perfect ability score spread, spellcasting, and resistance. Two skills, and disguise. Beasthide: Strength and Constitution, and a free skill.
The temporary hit points you gain while shifting are a great perk as well. Longtooth: A less favorable ability score increase, but the extra attack granted by your shifting more than makes up for it. Swiftstride: Not useful for Paladin. Wildhunt: Not useful for Paladin. Strength, a flexible ability score increase, natural armor, AC bonus, and the vigilance to keep watch over a sleeping party. Totally flexible, and lots of great options. Class Features Hit Dice: d10 hit points put you at the top of the hit point game.
Weapon Proficiencies: All weapons. The best kind. Armor Proficiencies: All armor and shields. Tool Proficiencies: None. Lay On Hands: This is the most efficient healing ability in the game. Fighting Style: Paladins get a smaller list of fighting styles than Fighters do, but there are still solid options on the list. The reroll does not apply to Smite damage dice, making it less useful.
If you plan on using two-handed weapons, pick Defense instead to compensate for your lack of a shield. Protection: Tempting, but it only works with adjacent allies. Spellcasting: Paladin spellcasting is a nice mix of defensive buffs and healing. Your Smite spells are unique to your class, and powerful options for your swordsmanship. Burning spell slots on your Divine Smite is also a great use of spells. Using the Smite spells, such as Searing Smite, Thunderous Smite, and Wrathful Smite can do decent damage with helpful additional effects which may be more situationally useful than the small amount of extra damage that Divine Smite provides. Extra Attack: A second attack doubles your damage output.
Cleansing Touch: A great way to un-curse your allies without using a spell slot. The abilities granted are a mix of crowd control options and strong offensive options. Oath Spells: Most of the spells on this list require a save by the target, so upping your Charisma is mandatory if you plan on using them to their best effect. Hold Person will be unreliable unless you have a really strong Charisma. This might be the level reserved for smites. Dominate beast suffers from the same DC dependence as the previous. Channel Divinity: Both options are excellent.
Guided Strike: This is a really great ability that ensures you hit with an attack, which means you get to smite. Aura of Conquest: You have two ways to cause fear, your channel divinity and the fear spell, both of which require a save DC. If you needed a reason to increase your Charisma, this is it. The ability to lock down terrified enemies can end an encounter or prevent a squad of minions from moving. Scornful Rebuke: Cast Compel Duel on an enemy, and then watch them kill themselves. More hits coming in means more damage going out. Invincible Conqueror: For 1 minute per day you become an absolute wrecking ball.
Oath of Devotion This is the most typical version of a Paladin. It provides a mix of abilities that are intuitive and have a good degree of synergy. Protection from Evil and Good is a very strong buff, especially when used to prevent or control possession and charm effects at low levels, when your party is particularly susceptible to them. Guardian of Faith is a very strong area control spell. Commune is tricky to use well. Channel Divinity: Two useful options that feel very…paladin-y. Sacred Weapon: Granting yourself a magic weapon for a minute is very useful at low levels, but chances are any magic weapons you find over time will outclass this eventually.
Turn the Unholy: Adding turning undead and fiends to your list of abilities is useful for dealing with crowds of monsters. Purity of Spirit: Protection from Evil and Good is an amazing defensive buff, and having it permanently running without needing to concentrate is spectacular. This also keeps pesky minions off your back, allowing you to save your weapon attacks for the main villain. Unlike the other Sacred Oaths, this one grants abilities that can most easily be used to prevent or end encounters and promote diplomatic avenues. This sacred oath requires you to max out your Charisma as soon as possible, in order to make the best use of your Charisma-based skills and spellcasting, all of which relies on your targets failing the spell save DC. Oath Spells: Your spells are all excellent and on theme. Calm emotions is a strong area of effect spell, but only works situationally.
They give you great resilience. Wall of force is the best wall spell in the game. Channel Divinity: Both options are easy to use and commonly activated. Rebuke the Violent: Great to use against enemy casters, or big monsters who hit hard. Did they just hurt you? Make them feel your pain.
