He can be a lot of different things to a line. He can be its scorer and primary shot threat. He can be its go-to puck retrieval option and cycle presence. Or he can be its primary carrier and distributor. That would still be true even if he had played a full season in 2019-20 and thrived. Brannstrom has shown an ability to manufacture offence and create from the back end above and beyond his peers in Sweden and the AHL. It served to highlight concerns about his size and strength, both defensively and offensively in his ability to play with power in man-on-man battles or create the same havoc with his shot as he does with his ability to hit seams. But the Senators were awful this season and that makes evaluating most of their players — particularly the youngest ones — difficult.
In Brannstrom, I see a zone exit and entry machine, a superb passer, enviable poise with the puck and just enough talent with his feet and stick to hold his own defensively. And though he became an immediate impact forward at the AHL level, he never really dictated play there as much as he should have given his skill set. His game is built for it. When he gets touches, he makes things happen. The Oilers need more players like him in their supporting cast, not less. I think both of those things can be true, even if I have to acknowledge the bias I have from being lower on Chytil than most over the years.

While he was expected to work his way back into a role for Philadelphia, the team decided to move on from him in the 2021 offseason, where they traded him to the Golden Knights. Now, Patrick finds himself in a tough position. While he has one-year remaining on the contract extension he signed with Vegas , the Golden Knights are looking to pinch every penny they can to be cap compliant once again. This could lead him to traded if he starts the 2022-23 season slowly, which may hurt his opportunities to excel alongside a playoff-caliber team. Miro Heiskanen — Dallas Stars With the third-overall pick, the Dallas Stars decided to take the first defenseman off the board by selecting Finnish prospect Miro Heiskanen. By taking on more the 23 minutes of ice-time each night as a rookie, he was a top candidate for the Calder Trophy despite lacking in scoring that often drives conversation surrounding that award. He consistently eats 23 to 25 minutes of ice-time each night, puts up needed points, and just acts as a stalwart on the blue line that every team dreams of. Given everything, this was a great selection by Dallas, as they have one of the top young defensemen locked down to a reasonable deal through his prime years.
Cale Makar — Colorado Avalanche To say that the 2016-17 season was an unmitigated disaster for the Colorado Avalanche would be a bit of an understatement. To start things off, then head coach Patrick Roy stepped down as head coach before the season even began, leaving the team little time to scramble and find a new skipper. Related: 2007 NHL Draft: 5 Forgotten Picks On the ice, the Avalanche finished dead last in the league , only mustering 48 points, which made them one of the worst teams of the cap era. Off the ice, they had a disgruntled star in Matt Duchene who wanted to be traded. Finally, despite having the best odds to win the Draft Lottery, they ended up falling all the way to fourth. However, while this looked like a stroke of bad luck that would set the franchise back years, it ended up becoming a centerpiece of their rapid rebuild to glory. Next, he joined the team for the 2019 postseason, where he played 10 games and posted six points.
They took Glass with that pick and ended up taking Suzuki with their second pick, 13th overall. Suzuki was traded to Montreal in the Max Pacioretty deal before ever playing for the team. He went on to post 41 points in 71 games in his rookie season with the Habs. They also acquired Tony DeAngelo in that deal.
This was before the Rangers committed to their rebuild and they thought Andersson could step in and play right away. Thomas is an excellent depth option who will be pushed up the lineup in St. Louis sooner rather than later. His lack of production up to this point is highly, highly concerning considering how much natural ability he has. He finally appeared to be up to full speed at the end of the year but remains a massive injury risk moving forward. Rasmussen is a big-bodied kid who is probably a depth option who can help on the PP. He should be in Florida full time at the start of next season.

Winners and Losers of NHL Draft 2017
An NHL career is made every single day of a young players life, and the path is never the same for any pair of picks. Many of these players will take well over a season to gain the skills necessary to even come close to an NHL spot, and the level of skill development necessary can be enormous. The NHL Draft to me is about drafting the rarest high-level skillsets you can find, especially up high, and to swing for the fences on someone you really like in the late rounds, or go after a goalie or two who can stop a puck.

Виной тому травма, которая очень уже похожа на хроническую. Год ушло на развитие у себя в Финляндии, после чего Хейсканен приехал, чтобы сходу стать лидером обороны "звёзд". Robert Thomas has gradually developed the way that the Blueshirts likely envisioned Andersson to. Original Pick: Casey Mittelstadt The Sabres are currently experiencing an impatient appetite to have their actual selection in Mittelstadt take on a sizable role with the big club. On the other hand, later selection Frost is currently having exactly the type of success with the Flyers that Buffalo is salivating for from Mittelstadt. Original Pick: Michael Rasmussen The Michael Rasmussen pick seemed to be a winner early into the development stages of this draft class. Original Pick: Gabriel Vilardi Although Brannstrom has since been moved by the team that had originally drafted him, the crafty Swede has already begun to emerge as an NHL capable defender. The team was widely expected to be targeting a forward with the pick, however, at the time, Max Comtois, who had been ranked as high as the top-10, has seen his stock drop all the way out of the first round. In hindsight, Comtois was in fact worthy of a first-round pick, however, just falling out of the top-10. Despite being moved out of the desert and onto colder pastures, Suzuki is well on his way to proving his value at the NHL as a rookie with the Canadiens. Original Pick: Cal Foote The Lightning desired a defenseman to slide into their top-four with the 14th overall selection. With several blueliners projected to go in the second half of the first round, Al Murray opted for Foote.
The Kelowna Rockets product tallied three more points than Henri Jokiharju in his draft year, but the latter has begun his professional career on a more intriguing note. Original Pick: Erik Brannstrom After losing draft stock in the weeks leading up to the draft, Nolan Patrick maintained his draft value and was selected by the Flyers in the two-hole.
He has shown some flair this season, too.
Passing by Robert Thomas has been so nice this season pic. He has an elusive release and picks corners with ease. He should feast on weak matchups as a second-line center this year.
In his final year of junior, he carried the Guelph Storm to the Memorial Cup with 42 points in 24 playoff games. In the NHL, he has continued to produce at an impressive rate and has shown he can run a powerplay. Some have given up on him, but if he remains healthy he can still reach his potential.
His frame means he can win pick battles and maintain possession, and his quick hands and creativity mean he can create chances. He is just as good as a setup man or a finisher. If he can round out his game and start to make the simple plays more consistently, he may end up higher on this list.
However, the players above him have been more effective thus far. Standing at six-foot-three, 200 pounds, he is most effective below the hash marks where he can dictate play with his size, shot and vision. He also possesses a powerful release, making him a well-rounded threat.
This season we will see whether or not Vilardi can fully recover from the injuries that have plagued his career thus far. He plays a simple but highly effective game, using his slick hands to carry the puck into vantage points where he can beat the goalie himself with or find a teammate with ease. He is a safe bet to be a second-line center, having produced well but not extraordinarily at all levels.
He is lethal in the offensive zone, hard to get off the puck and is an elite passer. Similar to Patrick and Vilardi, Glass is another big, talented Canadian centreman whose future is hard to project given his injury history. However, he has shown improvement at the pro level and he is too talented not to make the NHL.

Ближайшие два года Галиев проведет наверняка вне «Вашингтона», потому что свободных позиций в третьем звене под него не предвидится, да и для игры в НХЛ скауты рекомендуют ему поработать на тренажерах. Главный скаут «столичных», кстати, заикнулся, что Галиев может справиться с ролью центрального нападающего, но и там плотность будет немалой, учитывая наличие в системе Юханссона и Кузнецова. Галиев — между прочим, друг Кузнецова, это плюс к потенциалу. В одной из юниорских сборных России Станислав даже капитаном побывать успел, что делает его, предположительно, менее склонным к «некубковости».
Так что, при правильном подходе в системе Будро обязательно найдется место для талантливого и работящего форварда-универсала, вопрос лишь в том, потянет ли он в одной из сильнейших команд мира роль форварда в звене, скажем, Семин-Кузнецов-Галиев. Иван Телегин «Атланта» Еще одного хорошего приятеля Михаила Васильева выбрали позднее, чем это ожидалось многими, но жаловаться на несправедливость ему не приходится. Скажем еще раз — в «Атланте» отношение к россиянам благосклонное, так что шансы попасть в НХЛ у Телегина все-таки имеются. Если габаритный форвард выполнит поставленную перед ним тренерами «Сагино» задачу и забьет 50 голов за сезон в ОХЛ, то через несколько лет на него обратят внимание в «Трэшерс». На фоне канадских ровесников экс-игрок новокузнецкого «Металлурга» выделяется хорошим катанием и техникой.
Максим Кицын «Лос-Анджелес» Существенный вопрос, от которого зависят энхаэловские перспективы Кицына, — выберут ли его на драфте Канадской хоккейной лиги и, собственно, отпустят ли его туда играть. Агент игрока настроен оптимистично, так что осталось узнать мнение руководства «Кузни». Максиму пока не хватает стабильности и каких-то особых качеств, чтобы блеснуть в КХЛ.

The following rules applied to player selection for the expansion franchise: The franchise had to select one player from each of the 30 existing franchises. This did not include any additional players that the team would receive from possible transfers if the draft regulations were violated. The franchise had to select at least 14 forwards, nine defenders and three goalkeepers. The selected players in the franchise had to have a value between 60 and 100 percent below that of the previous year, taking into account the salary cap. This is to avoid teams handing over many players with inefficient contracts in order to gain a financial advantage. In addition, players transferred before the draft may only be transferred back to their former team after January 1, 2018.

А после переименования начался трэш: 9 лет — одно попадание в КС. И вылет в первом раунде. Ярких звезд у «Койотис» нет, возможностей для развития тоже маловато. Россиянин Иван Просветов подтвердит: вратарь кстати, тоже задрафтованный провел в НХЛ всего 13 матчей «регулярки» с 2021 года. Но не убегать же теперь от Аризоны.
Тем более, что вместе с Симашевым едет одноклубник по «Локо» Даниил Бут. В США ярославская парочка отправится не раньше лета 2025-го, когда у обоих истекут контракты с «железнодорожниками». К тому моменту «Аризона» уже может переехать в штат Коннектикут, обзавестись собственной ареной и обновленной фан-базой. Получается, не такая уж это и дыра будет? Михаил Гуляев оказался в первом раунде драфта. Парень не только ушел с молотка под самый конец вечера, но и стал четвертым россиянином в первом раунде.
Такого не было с 2020 года. А самое главное достижение — два русских в топ-10 впервые за 5 лет. И если Симашев больше радовался за приобретенную компанию «Я, а теперь Бут. Мы оба из «Локомотива», хорошие друзья.

Нынешний прорыв не должен удивлять: за океаном очень чутко реагируют на все тенденции в мировом хоккее, а одна из них заключается в том, что в последние годы все больше наших игроков между КХЛ и шансом попробовать свои силы за океаном выбирают второй вариант. Если раньше, выбрав на драфте русского, клубы НХЛ сильно рисковали так и не увидеть его в своем составе, то теперь ситуация выглядит совсем иначе.
