With both carriageways blocked, police closed the motorway for a time, and diversion signs were posted at the nearest slip roads. Breakdown vehicles and ambulances had considerable difficulty in reaching the scene of the accident because of fog. At the opening meeting in London last night, Sir John Stone, the Metropolitan Area Traffic Adviser, criticised the standard of motorway driving in this country. He said that there was evidence that many of the basic disciplines of motorway use had yet to be learned by British drivers. Lane discipline was much worse in this country than in America; and the habits of drivers when overtaking were particularly bad. One saw far too much dangerous pulling-out without an adequate signal having been given, and there was a similarly dangerous tendency for drivers to cut in after overtaking. Perhaps the commonest form of misuse however, was the reluctance of drivers of private cars to move into the inside lane whenever it was possible to do so. Sir John said that far too many were determined to stay in the middle or even the outside lanes, regardless of traffic conditions, with the result that drivers wishing to overtake became impatient and tried to follow too closely behind the vehicle in front, thus making accidents more likely. In Colorado, a 53-year-old man sexually assaulted hostages before killing a 16-year-old student and then himself. And a high school student in Wisconsin was suspected of killing his principal after being disciplined for carrying tobacco.
We take a look back at ten of the biggest news stories from the year. Their hallucinations were confirmed to be, in fact, reality when TV cameras captured a juvenile female Northern bottlenose whale who was five metres long and weighed about seven tonnes. Her normal habitat would have been near the coasts of the far north of Scotland and Northern Ireland, and in the seas around the Arctic Ocean but she appeared to have lost her way. Rescue teams attempted to get the whale affectionately named Diana back into the Atlantic but she later died from convulsions as she was being rescued at around 19:00 GMT on 21 January. There were seven bomb blasts that occurred over a period of 11 minutes on the Suburban Railway in Mumbai. The bombs were set off in pressure cookers and killed 209 people and injured over 700. The first bombs went off at 18.
Nine years later, 12 people were convicted in this case. Faisal Sheikh, Asif Khan, Kamal Ansari, Ehtesham Sidduqui and Naveed Khan who planted the bombs in various trains were all sentenced to death while the other seven accused of the crime—Mohammed Sajid Ansari, who prepared the electrical circuits for the bombs, Mohammed Ali, who allowed people to use his house to make the bombs, Dr Tanveer Ansari, one of the conspirators, and Majid Shafi, Muzzammil Shaikh, Sohail Shaikh and Zamir Shaikh who gave logistical support — were given life imprisonment. On the county and municipal level, programs were established to enable fire mitigation and fire prevention planning. Homeowners worked to clear dead and dying trees from their properties, and a widespread Community Wildfire Protection Plan took hold across the county.
But the more we know about the pine beetle epidemic, the more nuance it seems is needed in the debate. While beetle-killed trees grow in numbers, a new argument about a consequent rise in fire danger arose. Water, or lack thereof, was less of an issue this year, as the hydrological year between 2005 and 2006 was one of the wettest on record. And on June 5, Dillon Reservoir filled to capacity, and excess water spilled through the glory hole for the second year in a row. In other environmental news this year, a surge of run-off from an abandoned mine above Breckenridge threatened a number of species in April. The result of the mine run-off: the Blue River flowed a deep orange color right through downtown Breckenridge, though no long-term impacts to the ecosystems there could be reported.
Finally, boosted water flows in the same Blue River were the goal of the Breckenridge Sanitation District with their proposed Blue River Pumpback Project — where a series of pipes and pumps would recirculate water flows normally lost to Dillon Reservoir back into the river further upstream. The year was marked with much progress on the project; funding was secured and scheduling and planning begun. County welcomes some impressive new neighborsLate last year, the county realized the dream of a fully-functioning, advanced new hospital to its boundaries, the culmination of years of hard work by county commissioners and staff. While the finishing touches on a new Flight-For-Life helicopter hangar are yet to be finished, the MOB opened for business this summer without a major vacancy. The new MRF just might make it easier for a countywide curbside recycling program to take shape in 2007.

He was transported to the Inova Alexandria Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. There is no suspect description, and police have yet to determine a motive for the murder. City Helps Katrina Victims In the days after the Hurricane Katrina, the City of Alexandria sent firemen, police officers and city workers to assist in the rescue and recovery operation. Now, months after the initial devastation, the city still has several employees working in the Gulf Cost region. A team of eight police officers traveled to Picayune, Miss.
On 30 December 2006, the first day of Eid-ul-Adha, Saddam was hanged. Italy won the tournament on 9th July 2006 after they defeated France 5—3 in a penalty shootout, when extra time had finished in a 1—1 draw. Germany defeated Portugal 3—1 to finish in third place.
