Advertisement We thought this weekend would be a tradepocalypse. But with the exception of a couple big deals, teams mostly went about their business of making picks at the draft. But who made their organization better this weekend? And what trends emerged?

At 21-years-old, the Power Forward is already a speedster, a brute, and a master marksman. The right-shot winger can score from anywhere with his 93 wrist and slap shot accuracy, as well as the 94 slap and wrist shot power. He can push around anyone with 91 strength, 94 body checking, and can fly past the most fleet-footed defenseman with 91 acceleration, 91 speed, and 91 agility. By this point, Cechmanek is a pure puck-mover, boasting very high puck skills ratings but relatively low shooting ratings. His 94 deking, 95 hand-eye, 94 puck control, and 95 passing all make him the centrepiece of an offensive move, as do his 90 acceleration and 89 speed.
Originally considered a surefire top three pick early in the season, he could go anywhere from 5-20 in the draft.
Skating wise, he has great power in his stride and beats many junior-level players with ease. Offensively, he mostly stays away from the big load ups from the point, more often than not opting for an efficient approach focused on getting shots through to the net. He tore apart the U18s with six goals and 13 points in seven games and chipped in a couple of points at the World Juniors as a 17-year-old. Scouts describe a great deal of inconsistency to his game. He piled up 30 goals in just 52 games in the USHL thanks to an elite shot and a complete shooting arsenal that enables him to beat goaltenders from just about anywhere in the offensive zone. He finishes plays more than he makes them.
He has some difficulty dealing with heavy forechecks, but he thinks his way around problems. Cloud team.

A strong performance, seven points in four games, would lead to him being invited to join the US NTDP late in the season. He scored a point per game. He had another impressive tournament, with nine points in seven games. He is committed to the University of Minnesota in 2017. Mittelstadt has excellent puck handling ability. He can beat defencemen one-on-one with a number of moves, and has the soft hands to stick handle in a phone both. He combines this with excellent speed, and the ability to make cuts on a dime. Mittlestadt is an excellent play maker who creates passing lanes with his quick puck movement. He also has a good shot. He put up nine goals and 10 points in just five games for Finland. Tolvanen is a pure sniper who scores goals in a variety of different ways. He reads the play extremely well, and uses a quick first step and excellent accleration to allude defenders and get himself open to fire a shot on goal. Tolvanen has an outstanding one-timer, with great power and accuracy. He also has a lightning quick release on his wrist shot. Tolvanen has the soft hands to make quick moves and beat defenders with his stick handling ability. He can bury rebounds and has the hand-eye coordination to get deflections in front of the net as well. He also has plenty of experience playing for the National team at the Ivan Hlinka tournament, the U18, and the U17 levels. Hischier is a playmaker, with outstanding vision and passing ability. He has very good hockey sense, and anticipates his teammates movements in the offensive zone. Hischier has a very quick first step, excellent acceleration and agility, as well as great edgework. This, along with quick hands, allow him to avoid defenders and make him very elusive when working the puck in the offensive zone. Hischier also has a very high work ethic, he never seems to stop working during a shift. The answer is Callan Foote. Foote scored eight goals and 36 points in 71 games as a WHL rookie, showing real offensive prowess. Foote is an excellent skater. He skates well in both directions, and solid pivots and edgework allow him to cover a lot of ice. Its more about battling in the corners and clearing the front of the net than throwing big open-ice hits though. Foote has a hard slap shot which he keeps low and puts on net. He also has good poise with the puck on his stick, and the vision to quarterback things from the point on the power play.

An NHL career is made every single day of a young players life, and the path is never the same for any pair of picks. Many of these players will take well over a season to gain the skills necessary to even come close to an NHL spot, and the level of skill development necessary can be enormous. The NHL Draft to me is about drafting the rarest high-level skillsets you can find, especially up high, and to swing for the fences on someone you really like in the late rounds, or go after a goalie or two who can stop a puck.
The team was widely expected to be targeting a forward with the pick, however, at the time, Max Comtois, who had been ranked as high as the top-10, has seen his stock drop all the way out of the first round. In hindsight, Comtois was in fact worthy of a first-round pick, however, just falling out of the top-10.
Despite being moved out of the desert and onto colder pastures, Suzuki is well on his way to proving his value at the NHL as a rookie with the Canadiens. Original Pick: Cal Foote The Lightning desired a defenseman to slide into their top-four with the 14th overall selection. With several blueliners projected to go in the second half of the first round, Al Murray opted for Foote. The Kelowna Rockets product tallied three more points than Henri Jokiharju in his draft year, but the latter has begun his professional career on a more intriguing note.
Original Pick: Erik Brannstrom After losing draft stock in the weeks leading up to the draft, Nolan Patrick maintained his draft value and was selected by the Flyers in the two-hole. Nonetheless, he is currently forecasting as a satisfactory middle-six center, value worthy of a 15th overall pick. Original Pick: Juuso Valimaki Few players recognition has grown as much over the previous twelve months than the Blue Jackets forward Bemstrom. Batherson was worthy of a first-round draft-pick, and Boston would be as good a team as any to make the pick. Original Pick: Robert Thomas With Thomas being selected 13 picks earlier in our re-draft, the Blues find themselves in a difficult spot in attempting to find any kind of an equivalent.

In 150 career NHL games, Heiskanen as amassed 20 goals and 68 points in 150 regular season games played and will be a stalwart on the Dallas blue line for many years to come. Out of the top five players selected in this draft, Makar was the only one who played NCAA where he tallied 21 goals and 70 points in 75 games played for the University of Massachusetts. Makar also led his team in scoring as a defenseman in 2018-19 and would go on to win the Hobey Baker award, the first in the history for the school. Makar had a more than unique breakout with the Avs as he was called up to play for the team in the 2018-19 playoffs, where he adapted almost immediately, registering a goal and six points in 10 playoff games, cementing himself undoubtedly into the Avalanche roster for years to come.
The Las Vegas Golden Knights must also adhere to a set of rules. The Knights must choose a player from each team for a total of 30 players. Las Vegas must choose 14 forwards, nine defensemen and three goalies.
