What I took away from the deleted scene is the notion that Sunset Shimmer is going through an internal struggle. Looking back at the Friendship Games there is a scene that may clue one in on how Sunset is fitting in with the human world. All the potential problems that Sunset lists off to Rainbow Dash pertain to Equestria and magic.
This would only make her feel like even more of an outsider. Something that could ultimately make her decide to return to Equestria. Looking at it that way makes it seems like a no brainer that Sunset Shimmer would choose to return to Equestria.
